For many years the artist Harold Riley collaborated with L S Lowry on a project to record their home city of Salford. Street Dogs gathers together some of Riley’s affectionate sketches of (and notes on) the dogs he encountered during that period.
“This book is a collection of twenty–five dogs from the hundreds in my sketchbooks. The dogs come from the streets of the town where I have lived all my life. They cover pages or margins of the many work–books I have made in the city. Brief notes sometimes accompanied the dogs and, although they will probably mean little to those who live outside Lancashire in England, I recorded the place and date for my own interest.”
